January is here. Many people set New Year’s resolutions or wishes and often have a hard time sticking to them. This may be due to setting unrealistic goals or aspirations, lack of motivation, or not knowing how to identify and create actionable steps to be successful. Many also struggle with accountability, making it difficult to follow through and create lasting change.
I prefer teaching patients to focus on setting clear health outcomes and getting very specific about what they truly desire to achieve.
1. Identify Where You Are Currently
First, it’s important to evaluate where you are right now. Look at all aspects of your life:
Mind, body, spirit, business, personal life, and relationships—including your relationship with yourself and others.
Identify what may be causing pain or discomfort in your life, whether it is:
- Physical: Weight gain, fatigue, poor sleep, pain, inflammation, or a diagnosed condition
- Emotional: Past trauma, life events, mindset, or situations or people holding you back
- Spiritual: Lack of connection to your source, nature, the universe, or God
Think about ways you can sidestep around the pain and redirect your focus. When we stay focused only on pain, it can create negative thought patterns that continue to snowball. Ask yourself:
What can I do today to take inspired action toward positive change?
2. Identify Where You Desire to Be
Once you have clarity on where you are, the next step is identifying where you want to go.
Get very honest with yourself about what you truly desire to create in your life. To gain clarity, you may:
- Journal and reflect
- Talk with trusted friends
- Work with a professional for guidance
Ask yourself:
- What would reaching my health outcome look and feel like?
- What would this allow me to do more of?
- How would this benefit the people around me?
- How would it benefit me?
3. Take Action Toward Your Desired Outcomes
Next, identify the steps you can take to move toward your desired outcomes.
These steps don’t have to be big. Small, consistent actions—combined with accountability, progress check-ins, and celebrating small wins—can build confidence and motivation over time.
To support accountability, consider scheduling regular check-ins on your calendar to review progress and make adjustments as needed.
If you need support, The Vitality Doctor team is here to help you navigate hormone challenges and provide accountability to support your health goals. You may also benefit from:
